Once again this season, Natchitoches Parish has some very good high school
basketball teams.
The latest example came earlier this week when the St. Mary’s boys went to
Alexandria Senior High and knocked off the Class 5A Trojans 44-43. It made
the Class A Tigers 19-6 on the season and dropped ASH to 19-8.
St. Mary’s stands fourth in the state’s basketball power rankings for Select
Division IV, and next plays Montgomery in District 3-1A action.
Natchitoches Central and Lakeview have both their girls and boys teams among
the state’s best with playoffs coming around the corner in a couple of weeks
for the girls, and a week later for the boys.
NCHS, which plays tonight at Byrd in District 1-5A competition, has surged
with both teams lately.
The girls are No. 8 in the LHSAA’s Non-Select Division I state rankings with
a 19-9 overall record, and just crushed No. 7 Haughton in district play.
They nearly ended Parkway’s long district winning streak, getting beat on a
late jump shot recently in the NCHS Teepee.
The Chiefs (21-4) stand fifth in the power rankings and are the
highest-ranked team from north Louisiana in Non-Select Division I.
Lakeview is roaring. The Gators are the state’s No. 1 team in Non-Select
Division IV with a 22-4 record. The Lady Gators have an even better record,
21-2, and hold the fifth spot in the LHSAA power rankings. Lakeview visits
Many tonight.
