Kautz leads St. Mary’s entering final round of LHSAA golf championship

LAFAYETTE – Junior Peter Kautz topped the scorecard for St. Mary’s Tuesday at the rain-delayed Oschner Health LHSAA State Golf Championships.

Kautz and the Tigers played through a soggy 6,348-yard, par-72 course at appropriately named The Wetlands, and will tee up in the final 18 holes this morning at 9. Weather washed out plans for a Monday start and Tuesday finish.

Kautz shot 80 (37-43) and is 10th individually entering the final round. Kautz’ opening nine-hole score was fourth best among all Division IV golfers Tuesday.

Mixon Bankston’s 85 (41-44) was the Tigers’ second-best score. Other St. Mary’s golfers posting scorecards Tuesday were Bode Blackmon (44-51 – 95), Cole Yopp (53-49 – 102) and Ethan Busby (72-57 – 129).

In team competition, the Tigers are seventh with a 362 total and are the only central Louisiana team in the standings.

Eighth-grader Lilly Boyd qualified to represent St. Mary’s in the state girls’ tournament. She shot 108 (55-53) Tuesday and is 20th in the individual competition.
