A traffic stop by Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies on May 3 near Natchitoches has led to the arrest of a Winn Parish man on drug and felony weapon charges according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.
On Friday evening, May 3, at approximately 11:49 pm, NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau deputies were patrolling on Hwy. 6 East near Natchitoches when they stopped a 2000 Honda passenger car for a traffic violation.
Deputies identified the operator of the vehicle as 20-year-old Alexander Malik Perry of Winnfield.
Deputies say during the traffic stop, they observed items in plain view in the vehicle leading them to believe criminal activity existed.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered and seized two small bags of suspected marijuana and a Glock 19 semi-automatic handgun modified with a “Glock Swith or “Auto Sears” conversion kit and a 50-round fully loaded magazine.
The potentially dangerous “Glock Switch” or “Auto Sears” about the size of a nickel mostly being imported from China can turn a semi-automatic handgun into an automatic firearm capable of firing 1100-1200 rounds in a minute.
These devices illegally installed on handguns and semi-automatic rifles can turn them into potential machine guns.
This poses as a significant threat to the safety of the public and law enforcement.
If charged with a felony offense offenders caught in possession of modified weapon could serve up to 10-years in federal prison.
Perry, was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS I Marijuana, and Unlawful Handling of a Machine Gun.
Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force assisting in the investigation has been in contact with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms who are also assisting in the active and ongoing investigation.
Perry remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center awaiting bond.
Deputies C. Halliburton and T. Hortman made the arrest.
