
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated- Mu Omega Zeta Chapter concludes the 2023-2024 sorority year with significant milestones and notable achievements. Throughout the year, the chapter organized various Power of S.H.E initiatives focusing on social, economic, and health justice issues.
The chapter collaborated with one of its most valued partners, the Natchitoches Council On Aging, on the Older Americans Day event on the Riverbank. The chapter’s annual box fan drive, benefiting the Council and the seniors it serves, enjoyed a 50 percent increase in fan donations.
In their ongoing efforts to support the most vulnerable in the community, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated- Mu Omega Zeta Chapter successfully expanded its calendar to include an additional blanket drive to benefit local cancer patients.
Through Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s Z-HOPE Program, Zetas Helping Other People Excel, the Mu Omega Zeta Chapter aimed to offer a day of fun activities and resources to those affected by Autism in the local area. On April 19 advocacy speakers and organizations such as Families Helping Families Region 7, New Horizons Independent Living Center, Cultivating Caregivers, and Miicah Frank, Autism Author and Thriver joined Mu Omega Chapter for its Autism Fun Day event. The event also featured food trucks, a Walk of Autism Support, and participation from local police and fire departments, City Bank and Trust, as well as Hancock Whitney Bank.
Other Z-Hope events included the observance of Mental Health Awareness Month through Bridging the Gap-A Mental Health Conversation event. This event featured guest speakers Alisa Raggio- LPC-S,NCC, and Rozalyn Taylor who shared their expertise and experiences in the mental health field. Breast Cancer-Think Pink Sunday, National Night Out events in Natchitoches and the Village of Natchez, Which Way to Main Street, Stroll to the Polls Voter Advocacy, as well as the American Cancer Society-Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk were also hosted by the chapter, further solidifying its commitment to impacting the local community in socially conscious ways as well as addressing the needs of the most vulnerable populations.
Through its annual scholarship program, Mu Omega Zeta Chapter is dedicated to supporting local students pursuing higher education. This year, the chapter awarded a record five scholarships to students from Natchitoches area high schools. The chapter aims to increase scholarship funding by repeating the success of its previous Sneaker Ball Scholarship event. The 2024 Sneaker Ball Scholarship event is scheduled for Dec. 28.
Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 programming year, the chapter is excited to continue its impactful work, building on existing partnerships and community support. They are committed to addressing the needs of the local community and express gratitude to all those who have contributed to their initiatives in the past.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is an international, historically black Greek-lettered sorority founded on Jan. 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C, by five women affectionately known as “The Five Pearls.” The five coeds chose the name Zeta Phi Beta. Phi Beta was taken from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated to “seal and signify the relationship between the two organizations.” Our founding principles are Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. Our motto is: A community-conscious, action-oriented organization.
