A standing room only crowd of family, civic leaders and well-wishers gathered at Natchitoches’ Martin Luther King Community Center, Friday, August 30 to witness the dedication of a marker naming the community center’s gymnasium in honor of Mr. John Earl Winston.
Natchitoches Mayor Ronnie Williams welcomed the attendees, after which family members John Winston, Jr. and Victor Winston spoke. There was also a video presentation that outlined Mr. Winston’s decades of service to his community as a teacher, coach, city council member, NSU vice-president and civic leader.
After Mr. Winston’s remarks, he and his family unveiled the sign for the John E. Winston Gymnasium. The event culminated with the crowd enjoying catering from the Ben D. Johnson Center’s superb Legacy Café.
