Louisiana District Attorneys Board of Directors Meet in Natchitoches

The Louisiana District Attorney’s Association Board of Directors met in Natchitoches recently for their winter meeting. Natchitoches Parish District Attorney Billy Joe Harrington hosted the meeting, which drew district attorneys from 20 Louisiana jurisdictions.

The board invited as a special guest NSU President James Genovese, who shared his experiences of transitioning from serving as an associate justice on the Louisiana Supreme Court to now serving as president of Northwestern State University. In his remarks, Genovese shared his vision for NSU’s continued educational advancement and future success of the university.

“It was a productive meeting,” said DA Harrington. “We discussed pressing issues in our criminal justice system including juvenile crime and upcoming legislative priorities.”

Representative Debbie Villio, chairwoman of the the Louisiana House Legislative Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice, also met with district attorneys in Natchitoches and discussed the recent legislation addressing juvenile crime, which is a constitutional proposal Louisiana voters will consider in 2025.

District attorneys from across the state united to discuss shared challenges, such as the rise of fentanyl-laced drugs and human trafficking. They also explored ways to enhance crime victim support programs and improve victim services.
