A disturbance at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center / LaSalle Corrections on Friday afternoon was quickly resolved according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to NATCOM 911 Center reports of a disturbance involving inmates in a dormitory at Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on Dec. 20. As a result the facility was placed on lockdown.
As a precautionary measure and perimeter support, CERT teams from Rapides, Winn and Jackson Parishes along with Natchitoches SWAT responded to assist. Sheriff Stuart Wright also responded.
A short time later, CERT teams gained control of the dormitory with minimal injuries. A collaborative investigation continues as to the reasoning of the disturbance.
Major Roger Henson said disturbances like this are not uncommon in correctional facilities across the nation and have occurred throughout the existence of jails or prisons. The priority during these situations is the safety of our staff, the offenders, as well as citizens of our community. At no time during the disturbance was there a risk of escape nor was the facility unsecure. We especially want to thank the NPSO, Natchitoches SWAT, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Winn Correctional Center and Jackson Correctional Center for their quick response and assistance to safely resolve the situation.
