Brush fire behind 233 Gardenia Street

NATCOM dispatched NFD to the area behind 233 Gardenia for a brush fire. Central Fire Station and Station 3 responded. Fire Crews arrived on scene to find a wooded area behind the subdivision on fire as well as a structure. Fire crews began extinguishing the firefighting hose from the fire engines and grass flaps. Fire District 6 and the Louisiana Department of Forestry was requested to extinguish this fire. Fire district 6 arrived and assisted with firefighting operations. The Forest Service arrived on scene with heavy equipment to plow a protective line around the fire to prevent spreading. NFD and Fire District 6 units were no longer needed. All the fire units were placed back in service and the scene was left with the Forestry Service. Thanks to Fire District 6, The State of Louisiana Forestry Service and NPD for their assistance with this fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Remember, sparklers can reach 1,200 degrees F and cause third-degree burns? Unintentional actions are the leading cause of outside fires. Community residents need to keep fire safety in mind when enjoying camping, playing with fireworks and outdoor grilling. Remember “Fire is Everyone’s Fight.”
