Construction of the village of Natchez’ new sewer plant is nearing completion. Carey Chauvin, project manager with Expert Maintenance and Construction, was on site Monday, February 10 coordinating with crews digging trenches to house the pipe bringing sewage to the new plant, hooking up connections to the plant’s power supply, and other final details.
The state of the art sewage plant has 12 chambers. As sewage enters the plant, it travels through each chamber getting progressively cleaner with each one. Blowers constantly aerate the sewage, breaking down solids as part of the treatment process. After the now treated sewage loses the last of its solids in the end chamber, it flows to a nearby chlorinator for final treatment.
The new sewage plant is a distinct improvement over the existing system and represents a significant modernization of the village’s infrastructure.
The Village of Natchez will host a ribbon cutting for the new sewer plant when construction is complete.
