Natchitoches Central and Lakeview moved on to the LHSAA girls basketball playoff quarterfinals Monday night with homecourt victories following very different scripts.

Seeded sixth in the Non-Select Division I bracket, NCHS (29-4) recovered from a nine-point first quarter deficit and prevailed 44-41 over No. 11 East Ascension at The Teepee.

In Division IV Non-Select, Lakeview (27-4) is seeded No. 1 and looked every bit the part in its first playoff game, thrashing 17th-seeded Franklin 60-24.

Lakeview will host No. 9 Homer Thursday evening in a quarterfinal game, trying to earn its way back to Marsh Madness in Hammond once again.

NCHS will travel Thursday evening to play third-seeded Zachary in West Baton Rouge Parish. Tip times for the quarterfinal games were not set as of Monday night.

The Lady Chiefs followed Jordan McDaniel and Akeelah Wade away from a 37-all tie. Wade sank two free throws and Jordan made a steal and layup for a four-point burst, and East Ascension couldn’t recover, although the visitors missed two shots to even up the game in the closing minute.

Wade sank three of four free throws in the last 40 seconds and finished with 15 points. McDaniel led the way with 18 for NCHS.
