Local Lions recognized, elected to district positions

Three Natchitoches Lions Club Officers attended the 102nd Annual State Lions Convention in Gonzales. For over 100 years, Lions from across Louisiana have gathered annually to celebrate, learn and plan for the future.This year’s celebration brought International Director Steven Middlemiss and his wife LeeAnn from New Hampshire to south Louisiana to celebrate the achievements of Lions from across Louisiana.

Nearly 250 Lions Club members gathered for the annual meeting. The Lions enjoyed a Friday night western-themed party to kick off the weekend. Members of the non-profit organization got to work Saturday morning in their first business session, and heard from the Honorable Dr. John Fleming, Louisiana State Treasurer. During their second business session, members heard updates from each district including updates on leadership, membership, service and extension.

Members also heard a list of nominations for next year’s slate of officers. Lions were excited to hear the most recent information regarding Louisiana Lions Camp and the Louisiana Eye Foundation. With summer camp nearing, Lions look forward every year to hosting special needs campers at the Louisiana Lions Camp in Leesville.

Sunday began with the Annual Lions Club International Foundation Breakfast. During the breakfast, Natchitoches Lions Club President, Nicole Woods, was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellow. This is presented to Lions who exemplify dedicated humanitarian service through the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

Nicole was also elected to serve as the District L Second Vice District Governor. Past Council Chair and Natchitoches Lions Club member Mimi Stoker was presented with the International Chairperson’s Medal.

This award is presented to Lions who exceed the Presidential Achievement Goals. She was also elected to serve as President of the Past District Governors’ Association. This year’s Convention ended with the announcement that next year’s conference will be held at Cypress Bend Resort on Toledo Bend.
