State of the City Address follows sudden closure of IP’s Red River Mill in Campti

Mayor Ronnie Williams, Jr. has released the 2025 State of the City Address, which will be available for viewing on the City of Natchitoches’ official website and social media platforms. The address outlines the city’s current challenges, achievements, and vision for the future, while also acknowledging the impact of recent events that have reshaped the local landscape.

This year’s address was delayed due to the unexpected closure of International Paper’s mill in Campti, a long-standing regional economic driver. The shutdown has had a profound effect on the Natchitoches area—resulting in job losses, reduced tax revenue, and a ripple effect across vital public services, including schools and local government agencies.

“This closure has been a significant blow not just to Campti, but to the entire parish,” said Mayor Williams. “In the face of this disruption, our administration prioritized immediate action— meeting with industry leaders, regional partners, and state officials to begin crafting a plan to support affected families and stabilize our local economy. We delayed the address out of respect for the situation and in recognition of the work that needed to be done first.”

In the address, Mayor Williams reflects on the community’s resilience while sharing updates on infrastructure, neighborhood development, public safety, and job growth efforts. He also outlines a forward-looking strategy to diversify the local economy, invest in workforce development, and seek new opportunities for sustainable economic growth in the wake of the mill closure.

The public is encouraged to watch the full address at https://youtu.be/qN1bO-xK65s and remain engaged in shaping the city’s path forward. The address will launch on Thursday, May 8 at 5 PM.
