
St. Mary’s Catholic School recently announced that Mrs. Barbara R. Thiergart will join the faculty for the 2025–2026 school year as a junior high and high school mathematics instructor.
Mrs. Thiergart brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished career in mathematics education, spanning over three decades. Recognized for her innovative strategies in teaching Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, she is especially skilled in working with challenged learners and helping students build confidence in their mathematical abilities.
Her extensive background includes curriculum development, ACT preparation, and mentorship roles in both Louisiana and Maryland school systems. She has organized and authored ACT prep and personal finance lessons and served as a mentor teacher for full-time geometry and honors algebra courses. Mrs. Thiergart’s teaching philosophy emphasizes adaptability, collaboration, and the thoughtful integration of technology to meet the diverse needs of today’s learners.
Among her many accolades, Mrs. Thiergart has been honored multiple times as Teacher of the Year, most recently in 2024 at Natchitoches Central High School. She has also been recognized by the American Legion 8th District of Central Louisiana and by student-led initiatives, including Rotary Club and student radio leadership programs.
Mrs. Thiergart holds a Master of Arts in Education: Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Secondary Education from Newman University in Kansas. Her return to St. Mary’s marks a meaningful homecoming, having served on the faculty from 1994 to 2002 as a teacher of Mathematics and Religion.
