DA announces 23-year sentence in attempted murder of police officer case

District Attorney Billy Joe Harrington announced on July 14 that a defendant was sentenced to 23 years in prison following a guilty plea to attempted second-degree murder of a police officer.

LaKendra Bolton, 26, of Natchitoches, entered the guilty plea before Division ‘B’ Judge Lala Sylvester in the 10th Judicial District Court. She was sentenced to 23 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

The conviction and sentencing result from a 2024 incident at Super One Foods in Natchitoches. Responding to a theft complaint, officers encountered Bolton inside the store. As officers attempted to detain her, Bolton fled, entered her vehicle, and struck two officers with her car before fleeing the scene at high speed. Bolton was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

Prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jason O. Methvin.
