NSU hires D3 head coach as associate head soccer coach

Northwestern State women’s soccer head coach Ian Brophy has added a veteran coach with head coaching experience with the hiring of Clifford Jordan as his associate head coach.

Jordan is going to coach the goalkeepers but will help with all aspects of the team.

“I am very excited to add Clifford to the staff and really get to build this program together,” Brophy said. “He brings a wealth of experience, dedication and recruiting knowledge and will just be a massive asset to our program in so many ways. His addition certainly allows us to continue what we have been building here since my arrival.”

Jordan comes to Natchitoches following a six-year stint as the head coach of the Division III Huntingdon College women’s soccer program in Montgomery, Ala., where he finished .500 or better in conference play in five of his seven seasons at the helm.

Prior to becoming the head coach at Huntingdon, he spent a season as an assistant with the Lady Hawks, where Huntingdon was 7-8-3 and reached the USA South Tournament quarterfinals.

Before his time at Huntingdon, Jordan spent one season with the Knox College women’s soccer program as the top assistant and goalkeeper coach in 2017.

A native of Dunnellon, Fla., Jordan graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s degree in 2014.

In addition to the hiring of Clifford, NSU is also bringing back former Demon Caroline Hilliard as the graduate assistant coach.

During her tenure between 2021-2024, she played in 77 games as a defender, starting 66. A natural leader, she took home SLC Freshman of the Year honors in 2021, helping lead the Demons to their first conference crown since 2005.

In her four seasons on the back line for NSU, she helped contribute to 32 shutouts, including 12 in her freshman season in Natchitoches.

The Demons report to camp July 28. The team aims to take another step under Brophy after improving its win total by five a season ago and playing for the regular-season Southland title.
