A vehicle fire temporarily shut down both lanes of Louisiana Highway 1 just south of Cypress on July 22, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #5 responded to the scene at approximately 4:19 p.m. The vehicle, a 2005 Jeep Cherokee, was fully engulfed in flames and was declared a total loss. No injuries were reported.

Deputy Cpl. B. Keyser assisted with traffic control as deputies waited for towing services to arrive. Both lanes of the highway were closed for roughly 30 to 45 minutes while the scene was cleared. Drivers were advised to take alternate routes during the closure.

All lanes were reopened later in the afternoon.
