Goldonna News: School Board officials tour Goldonna school campus

Officials from the Natchitoches Parish School Board toured the Goldonna Elementary Junior High School campus on Sept. 26

While the school was officially closed after the 24-25 school year, the Natchitoches Parish School Board still has work on their hands to secure the sight. Friday’s walk through was to document the few items left at the campus, miscellaneous damage caused by weather and to confirm what repairs will potentially need to be made in order to possibly secure a future tenant.

Maintenance Supervisor, Ryan Shirley, Custodial Supervisor, Jason Rachael, NPSB Superintendent, Grant Eloi, District 7 School Board Member, Chad Fredieu and School Board President, Reba Phelps spent the better part of the morning walking room to room covering the entire campus. During the visit several small windows were notated as broken as well as damage to the once thriving green house.

“Myself and Board President Reba Phelps, along with School Superintendent Dr. Grant Eloi and Head of Maintenance Ryan Shirley recently visited the Goldonna campus for an inspection of the facilities. Overall we were happy with what we saw. The grounds looked good and freshly cut. We did make a list of a few action items that are mainly for safety and security. Those items will be addressed within the week hopefully. We do still have our cameras up and running to monitor the campus and plan to make visits as often as needed to see that the campus is being taken care of and stays in a useable state for the community,” shared District 7 Board Member, Chad Fredieu.

The Board voted to close the school during the March 2025 board meeting following the closure of the Campti IP Mill. Definitive plans for the property are yet to be determined.
