Trinity Episcopal Church to hold Red Mass in Natchitoches on October 10

Trinity Episcopal Church will revive the Red Mass on Friday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. at 533 2nd St. in Natchitoches. The church has not hosted the Mass since 2018.

The Red Mass is a centuries-old tradition, originating in 13th-century England during the reign of Edward I, to mark the opening of the judicial year. The name comes from the red vestments worn by celebrants and the scarlet robes of judges, symbolizing the Holy Spirit and justice. Historically, it has been attended by judges, lawyers, public officials, and law faculty members.

Trinity has expanded the tradition to honor all who commit their lives to justice and public service. This includes judges, lawyers, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and first responders. The service also benefits charities identified by public service officers in the community.

The church invites all members of the community to attend this special service, which seeks to bless both the local legal system and those who risk their lives for public safety.
