Robeline Festival brings community together with parades, games, alumni celebration

By Courtney Freeman

We had a wonderful weekend in Robeline. Even with homecoming on each side of us and a car show, we had a good showing. The sides of the road were full for our main parade and our 1st children’s parade was precious. The scavenger hunt was a big hit with people and vendors adding to the grand prize. It did my heart good to see packs of kids running around for their clues. It reminded me of the festival of my youth and why I joined the Heritage Society to help bring it back. Just a weekend to bring everyone together as a community.

We had wonderful entertainment and fun. We were blessed with a packed park of vendors. Trying to find space and easily available electricity access was interesting to say the least. We also had a nice Alumni dinner, which is open to anyone who went to Robeline even if they had to transfer due to the school closing. We’ve always done a 50 year class float and it’s wild to think we’re only 6 years away from the last 50 year class float. I guess we’ll have to make it into an alumni float after that.

The festival has done a wonderful job of bringing our community together. Many municipalities are tied to their school and when they lose the school it can fall apart. I am happy to be a part of the effort to celebrate my community.

The Los Adaes Foundation will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, October. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Old Methodist Church and everyone is invited to come and join our effort in preserving a part of Robeline’s history.
