Deputies participate in annual firearms qualifications

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, including members of the Natchitoches SWAT Unit recently participated in their annual firearms qualifications as required by the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Council.

Deputies are recertifying with both handguns and patrol rifles, ensuring they maintain the necessary proficiency and readiness to effectively respond to any situation that may arise in the line of duty.

Firearms Instructors from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Division are conducting the qualifications, which include target accuracy,and weapons handling under various conditions.

Sheriff Stuart Wright emphasized the importance of ongoing training for all law enforcement officers.

“Annual firearms qualification is more than just a requirement it’s about ensuring our deputies remain skilled, confident, and capable of protecting the citizens of Natchitoches Parish,” said Sheriff Wright. “We take training seriously, and I’m proud of the professionalism and commitment our deputies demonstrate each year. Our goal is to ensure that every deputy is prepared to respond safely and effectively when seconds matter.”

In addition to firearms qualifications, deputies also receive regular training throughout the year in defensive tactics, de-escalation, and scenario-based response, ensuring they uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
