Students from the Natchitoches Parish Visual Talent Program recently traveled to Dallas, Texas for a day filled with art, creativity, science, and interactive learning experiences. The trip included 24 students in grades 6–8 from Natchitoches Junior High School, Natchitoches Magnet School, and NSU Middle Lab School. The trip was coordinated by Visual Talent teachers Daniel Rockett, Michelle Warren, and Hannah Gates.
The group began the day at the Dallas Museum of Art, where students participated in a docent-guided tour featuring works from a variety of time periods, cultures, and artistic styles. Students had the opportunity to closely examine famous works of art while learning about artistic techniques, historical context, and visual storytelling.
Following the museum tour, students enjoyed lunch at the DMA before visiting the Nasher Sculpture Center. There, students explored large-scale contemporary sculptures and outdoor installations, gaining firsthand experience with three-dimensional art and public art spaces.
The afternoon continued at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, where students explored exhibits focused on science, engineering, technology, and innovation. The trip concluded with an interactive experience at Immersive Gamebox in Deep Ellum, where students worked collaboratively through digital games and immersive technology experiences.
The Dallas trip was designed to expose students to a variety of artistic and educational experiences beyond the classroom while encouraging creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Students were able to connect concepts learned in class with real-world applications through hands-on experiences and direct engagement with professional museums and exhibits.
The Visual Talent team would like to thank the Natchitoches Parish School Board, school administrators, parents, and community supporters who helped make this opportunity possible for students.
