
The Natchitoches Parish School Board announced the appointment of Laura Powell-Strahan as the new principal of Marthaville Elementary/Junior High School, effective July 1, 2026.
With more than thirty years of experience in education, Powell-Strahan brings a wealth of knowledge in instructional leadership, school improvement, and student success. She has served in a variety of educational roles including mentor/master teacher, post-secondary instructor, and instructional strategist.
Since 2017, Powell-Strahan has served as a teacher at Marthaville, where she has built strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the community while demonstrating a continued commitment to academic excellence and student success. She was also named Marthaville’s 2026 Teacher of the Year, a recognition that reflects her dedication to students and instructional excellence.
Superintendent Dr. Grant Eloi shared enthusiasm about the appointment, stating, “Mrs. Powell-Strahan’s extensive experience and unwavering commitment to student success make her an outstanding choice to lead Marthaville School. Her passion for supporting both students and educators will be a tremendous asset to the school community.”
Powell-Strahan has dedicated her career to improving student outcomes. Her background includes extensive work in curriculum development, data-driven instruction, and effective school management, with a strong emphasis on creating positive, inclusive learning environments.
