Letter to the Editor: Request for assistance for a Natchitoches Parish family in need of reliable transportation

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Dustin Johnson, and I am reaching out on behalf of a local Natchitoches Parish family that is facing a significant transportation crisis and could greatly benefit from the support of their community.

Earlier this year, the family’s only vehicle was stolen. The theft was reported to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and remains under investigation by Detective Middleton under Case #26SO05508. Unfortunately, due to circumstances involving the vehicle loan and insurance coverage, the family has been unable to recover sufficient funds to replace the vehicle.

Since losing their transportation, the family has struggled to attend medical appointments, therapy sessions, school-related obligations, college classes, and other everyday necessities. Living in a rural area of Louisiana, they have little to no access to Uber, Lyft, taxi services, or reliable public transportation, making dependable transportation an urgent need.

The family is led by Courtney Greenleaf, a full-time college student working toward her bachelor’s degree while also serving as the primary caregiver for her disabled son. Her son has been diagnosed with Chromosome 17q12 Duplication, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, and severe speech impairments. He requires ongoing medical care, therapy services, educational support, and frequent appointments that have become increasingly difficult to attend without reliable transportation.

The household survives primarily on disability benefits and a small amount of child support. Despite these challenges, Courtney continues pursuing her education in hopes of creating a better future for her family while ensuring her son receives the care and support he needs.

I have personally witnessed the determination, resilience, and dedication this family demonstrates every day. They are not seeking luxury or special treatment only a safe, dependable vehicle that will allow them to attend medical appointments, therapies, school activities, college classes, and meet their family’s basic needs.

If your organization, business, dealership, church, or community outreach program is able to assist in any way, it would be deeply appreciated. Potential forms of assistance might include:

• Donation of a dependable vehicle
• Sale of an older trade-in or wholesale vehicle at a significantly reduced price
• Financial assistance toward purchasing transportation
• Sharing the family’s fundraiser or story on social media
• Referrals to charitable organizations, grant programs, or individuals who may be willing to help
• Any other resources or guidance that could assist the family

Even sharing their story can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you for your time, compassion, and consideration. Any assistance, referrals, prayers, or support you can provide would mean the world to this family and help them regain the transportation they desperately need.

Respectfully,

Dustin Johnson
