Heavy rain leaves roadway hazards across Natchitoches Parish

Heavy rainfall across Natchitoches Parish created hazardous travel conditions in several areas on June 20, leading to flooded roadways, downed trees and emergency response efforts.

In the Goldonna area, two large trees fell across Louisiana Highway 156 near Mount Zion Church, blocking the roadway. Water was also reported over the road as crews responded to the scene. Deputies with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with the Goldonna Marshal, Goldonna Fire Department and Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, assisted with the response.

Rainfall also caused water to collect in low-lying areas of Clarence, including along Greenville Drive. Deputies assisted a passenger from a vehicle that entered a ditch in the area due to high water conditions. No injuries were reported.

Motorists are encouraged to remain alert for lingering high water, debris and other storm-related hazards on parish roadways as conditions continue to improve.
