A commercial vehicle fire temporarily closed both northbound lanes of Interstate 49 near mile marker 154 late July 17, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District No. 7 responded to the scene.

The truck was transporting salt water.

Both northbound lanes were closed while firefighters worked to contain the fire, resulting in traffic delays through the area.

Deputy S. Kennedy assisted with traffic on behalf of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to NATCOM 911 records, the driver told communications specialists the fire originated from a tire before spreading.

Louisiana State Police also responded to the scene.

At 11:52 p.m., one northbound lane reopened, and motorists were advised to avoid distractions while traveling through the area.

By 12:27 a.m., both northbound lanes had reopened, and motorists were advised to drive carefully in the area.
