Professor Universe traveled through time to save the world from disaster with help from the children of Natchitoches Parish during a recent visit to the Natchitoches Parish Library (NPL). His show explored concepts in geology and paleontology through characters such as dinosaurs, cephalopods, and personified rock formations, educating attendees while creating a deeper understanding of history and science.
The NPL will continue to party with its patrons at their annual Summer Reading Big End Bash, Thursday, July 30, at the Main Branch in Natchitoches. Upon completing the reading goal of 12 hours, participants will receive an invitation to attend the event with registration instructions.
“Every minute a child spends reading or being read to is an investment in their future, and adults enjoy many benefits from reading as well,” said NPL Deputy Director Rosalind Parker. “We want to celebrate the families who have completed the challenging and enjoyable task of reading throughout the summer, whether it’s been through novels, picture books, audiobooks, or an item from our non-fiction collection.”
Though summer may be ending soon, the NPL continues to offer its no-cost-to-attend activities for all ages in August, including a variety of educational, health, fitness, art, and crafting classes.
“Summer Reading may be wrapping up, but our commitment to bringing people together to learn and have fun doesn’t stop when school starts,” said NPL Deputy Director Alan Niette. “August is packed with programs for every age, so there’s no need to wait until next summer to find something to do at the library.”
Over 30 programs will be offered to the public across the NPL’s two branches. A few of the adult events will be: Pokeno, DIY Wooden Bracelets, Spanish Conversations, Weekly Walking Club, Needle Felting, Canning with LSU Ag, and Laser Tag in the Stacks (for teens and adults). For teens (ages 12-17), classes will include: Animation Cel Painting, Kitchen Safety Workshop with LSU Ag, Fandom Night Zine Workshop, Blackout Poetry, and Tai Chi Walking. Of course, kids will also have plenty to do at the library, at programs like: Make Your Own Board Game, Kid Gamers Club, Baby Rave, Harvest of the Month with LSU Ag, and a variety of art classes broken up by age-group.
