Registration begins for Sept. 12 golf fundraiser for Lady Demon basketball

The Northwestern State women’s basketball porgram is accepting registrations and sponsorships for the 38th Annual Don’t Die Wondering Golf Classic, set for Sept. 12.

The annual golf tournament takes place at the Northwestern Hills Golf Course at the Robert W. Wilson Recreation Complex on the state Highway 1 bypass.

It remains the primary fundraising effort for the women’s basketball program, which is led by first-year head coach Alan Frey, a New Orleans native.

The Don’t Die Wondering Golf Tournament began in 1989, launched by former head coach James Smith, who took the trademark phrase from a locker room speech by f point guard Angela Ortega.

Entry to the golf tournament is $450 for a team or $125 individually. The four-person, 18-hole, scramble format tournament will begin at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start.

Food and drinks will also be available at the club house and throughout the course.

Visit NSUDemons.com/DDW for additional details on the tournament and information on how to sign up yourself or your team.

Hole sponsorships and corporate sponsorships for the event are also available. All proceeds benefit NSU women’s basketball, including feeding players over holiday breaks, overall team travel expenses and additional program costs, all of which have direct impact on the players.
