Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the NPSO Impact Unit arrested two individuals on narcotics-related charges during a proactive enforcement operation, according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.
The NPSO Impact Unit consists of deputies from the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau, Drug Enforcement Unit, and Patrol Operations Bureau working together to target criminal activity throughout Natchitoches Parish.
At approximately 10:35 p.m., deputies were patrolling in Natchez when they stopped a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck for improper lane usage. Deputies identified the driver as 64-year-old Calvin Ray Hoover of Natchez, Louisiana.
Deputies say when they asked Hoover for his driver’s license, he informed them he did not have one due to unpaid traffic tickets and instead provided a Louisiana identification card.
According to reports, when deputies requested Hoover’s insurance and registration, he retrieved the paperwork along with a cup and threw the cup, which contained an alcoholic beverage, into the rear of the vehicle.
As the traffic stop progressed, Hoover granted deputies permission to search the vehicle.
The search resulted in the recovery and seizure of a small amount of suspected marijuana, approximately 2.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and four glass smoking pipes commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics.
Hoover was arrested, transported, and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with:
• Possession of CDS I (Marijuana)
• Possession of CDS II (Methamphetamine) – 2nd Offense
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Open Container Violation
• Traffic Violations
Hoover remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center awaiting bond.
In a separate traffic stop near Cypress at approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies cited a 20-year-old Pineville woman for Simple Possession of CDS I (Marijuana).
The seized evidence in both cases will be submitted to the North Louisiana Crime Lab for analysis.
During the operation, deputies also issued five traffic citations.
Sheriff Stuart Wright commended the deputies for their continued proactive enforcement efforts.
