Boil advisory issued for portions of City of Natchitoches water system

A boil advisory has been issued for portions of the City of Natchitoches Water Distribution System following a water outage caused by a water main break on Aug. 6.

The advisory affects customers on:

  • Hwy. 6 west of I-49
  • Collins Road
  • Parish Road 543
  • McCallister Road
  • R.H. Bills Road

According to the City of Natchitoches Water System, the water outage caused system pressure to drop below 20 pounds, making the water of questionable microbiological quality.

As a precaution, residents in the affected areas are advised to disinfect their water before consuming it, including for fountain drinks, making ice, brushing teeth, food preparation or rinsing foods.

Consumers should boil water for one full minute in a clean container. The one-minute period begins after the water reaches a rolling boil.

The boil advisory will remain in effect until it is rescinded by the City of Natchitoches Water System.

The remainder of the City of Natchitoches Water Distribution System is not affected by the advisory.
