The defending Southland Conference champion Northwestern State soccer team wrapped up its preseason Saturday evening at home, blanking visiting LSU-Eunice in an exhibition match.
The Demons kick off their season with five road games, four in the next two weeks, beginning Wednesday evening at Oklahoma. They play next Sunday evening at LSU.
In their second exhibition of the week, but first at home, the Demons controlled play throughout against junior college opponent LSU Eunice, shutting out the visitors while scoring five times and dominating possession time.
Coach Ian Brophy spread out playing time liberally as the contest was a final tuneup for a challenging first two weeks in the non-conference portion of the schedule. Earlier Saturday, the student-athletes circulated with fans in the stands at football’s morning scrimmage during the Demon Fan Fest.
The first home soccer game will be Sunday, Sept. 6 against Louisiana Tech on Labor Day weekend. That starts a four-game homestand culminating with the Southland Conference opener Thursday, Sept. 24 against Lamar.
