
Cane River Waterway Commission Meets Tonight
The Cane River Waterway Commission holds its public meeting at 6 p.m. today at 1483 La. Highway 119 in Natchez. A public comment period will precede action on any agenda item subject to a vote, pursuant to La. R.S. 42:14 and 42:19(A).
The agenda includes old business on the pump project, buoys and no-wake zones, and new business including introduction of new board member Karson Eversull, a spray update, auction information for the former office at 244 Cedar Bend Road, office security and office signage.
NSU Athletics Fall Kickoff Saturday at Sports Hall of Fame
The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum will host the NSU Athletics Fall Kickoff from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at 800 Front St. Student-athletes will sign autographs and pose for photos from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer panel with all nine Northwestern State head coaches from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The event includes preseason and recruiting updates and information on season tickets and Vic’s Kids Club passes. Mighty Machines Day Set for Nov. 14 at Parc Natchitoches
Cane River National Heritage Area will host Mighty Machines Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Parc Natchitoches, giving children a close look at heavy equipment and the operators who run it. A sensory-friendly hour runs from 3 to 4 p.m. Admission is $25 per car. Proceeds benefit development of the Cane River Discovery Center, a planned children’s museum and visitor center. Operation Christmas Child Workshop Sept. 19
The Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child West Central Louisiana Area Team will hold its annual kickoff celebration and project leader workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 19, at First Baptist Church, 508 Second St. Breakfast and expo begin at 9 a.m., with the program at 10 a.m. The area covers Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine and Winn parishes. Interstate 49 Lane Closures Scheduled at Shreveport Interchange
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has scheduled lane closures on Interstate 49 southbound at the Pierremont Road/Hollywood Avenue interchange, Exit 203, in Shreveport. Motorists traveling north from Natchitoches Parish should expect delays.
NSU Music Academy Opens Fall Registration
Registration is open for the fall semester of the Northwestern State University Music Academy, with lessons beginning Monday, Aug. 24. The academy offers private instruction in piano, guitar, percussion and voice for students age six and older on the Natchitoches campus.
Phlebotomy Training Class Begins Sept. 8 at NSU
Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic Learning and Global Engagement will offer a phlebotomy technician training class beginning Sept. 8 in Natchitoches. Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m.

Freezer Cleanout Drive Set at Council on Aging
Hunters for the Hungry Louisiana will hold its annual Clean Out Your Freezer Day, with the Natchitoches Parish Council on Aging serving as a local drop-off point. The program accepts perishable donations ahead of hunting season.
