Natchitoches’ Colonial Era Fort St. Jean Baptiste was transformed from its usual era and geography on Sept. 5 as the 3rd annual Renaissance Comes to the Cane event brought a superb day of family fun to one of the area’s hidden gems.
Several hundred guests enjoyed the Society for Creative Anachronism’s recreation of the Renaissance Era. Members of our local chapter were joined by SCA members from around the area to demonstrate different aspects of life in the Renaissance era. Natchitoches’ own Lagniappe belly dance troupe was joined by the Shreveport’s Gems Dance Company, Jewel Dance Company, Logjam Drummers, and Rhythm Drummers, in performing for the visitors. A group of 10 sharp young people from the LSMSA’s Junior Classical League chapter volunteered to assist with the event. The Thistle Dancers, a local Scottish dance school, also performed.
The Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historical Site hosts fun events throughout the year in addition to their usual daily activities and displays. From their traditional Christmas and Halloween events to colonial candy making and crafts, there is always something for the whole family to enjoy.
