It was a memorable Friday night on the road for football teams from Lakeview and St. Mary’s, but Natchitoches Central couldn’t keep pace with one of the state’s powerhouses.
Lakeview got off the list of “Louisiana’s longest active high school football losing streaks” – a goal third-year Gators coach Lawrence Seawood Jr. set for his team long ago preparing for the 2026 season.
The Gators did it at Plain Dealing, pushing away from a tight game at halftime for a 35-0 win over the Lions. That ended a 28-game skid for Lakeview and extended Plain Dealing’s 46-game streak of losing, the state’s worst. Lakeview was No. 2 among active schools, but no longer.
Ashton Sowell scored three times for the Gators, who have a great chance to go 2-1. They host Magnolia School of Excellence, which is 0-2 and hasn’t scored this season in two blowout losses.
St. Mary’s moved to 2-0 when the Tigers scored with nine seconds remaining to break a 20-all tie at Coushatta, recording a six-point victory over Class 2A Red River. Jacob Thibodaux’s 2-yard run was the game-winner. It was his third TD of the night as he ran for 102 yards and three touchdowns.
Facing Class 4A power North DeSoto, generally considered one of north Louisiana’s top 4-5 teams year in and year out regardless of class, NCHS hung tough through the first half and was tied at 21 after two quarters.
But the Griffins, who have several Division I college prospects, found their groove afterward in a 56-21 triumph at Turpin Stadium.
