Free Library Tutoring Services

According to data collected by the State Library of Louisiana, Natchitoches Parish Library (NPL) patrons had the fifth highest usage numbers for Homework Louisiana in August. This online educational resource hub is available for free with an NPL card. Offering remote tutoring sessions, writing and math assignment feedback, and standardized testing and career prep services, Homework Louisiana offers a full suite of academic and career tools to learners of all ages and academic levels and is accessible through the NPL’s website natlib.org under the “Digital Resources” option of the “E-Books and More” tab. While an account is not required to work with Homework Louisiana’s tutors, creating a free account unlocks access to the site’s full features and is as simple as providing a first name, date of birth, and email address.

Local students wishing to access one-on-one tutoring help in person can find free assistance at the NPL’s Main branch Monday through Friday from 2:15 PM to 5:15 PM. Services are available for students in primary and select secondary grade-level subjects through a partnership with Northwestern State University. Walk-ins are accepted based on the availability of tutors; however, appointments are strongly encouraged. Parents may call 318-238-9222 to sign up for a tutoring session.

“These services are an invaluable resource for students regardless of their grade level,” said NPL Deputy Director Alan Niette. “Whether needing assistance outside of the classroom or wanting to increase their understanding of a topic or subject and accelerate their learning, anyone can take advantage of these free one-on-one instructional opportunities. Having access to individualized help through quality tutoring can make a tremendous difference in learning achievement, and we are excited to be able to provide this to the members of our community.”
