Meat Pie Festival Opens Tomorrow

The Natchitoches Meat Pie Festival runs Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19, on the downtown riverbank. Admission is free, with live music, food vendors, children’s activities and fireworks over Cane River Lake. The riverbank closes to vehicles at 5 p.m. today for setup.
Archery Deer Season Opens Saturday in Four Areas

Archery deer season opens Saturday, Sept. 19, in Deer Areas 3, 7, 8 and 10. All other areas open Oct. 1. Hunters need a basic hunting license and deer license, and all hunters must obtain tags before hunting, carry them in the field and tag a deer before moving it. Tags must be validated within 72 hours. Season dates, area boundaries and WMA rules are at wlf.louisiana.gov.
Dance Concert to Turn Alost Hall Into a Stage

Northwestern State University will present Modern in Motion XIV at Alost Hall on Sept. 22 and 24-27, at 6 p.m. except for a 2 p.m. matinee Sept. 27. Opening gala tickets Sept. 22 are $50 and include a reception. Tickets for Sept. 24-27 are $10, or $5 for children, students and seniors. STEM Day Registration Closes Sunday

Registration closes Sunday, Sept. 20, for NSU STEM Day, set for 8 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 25, on the Natchitoches campus. The event is open to students in grades 9 through 12 and features hands-on demonstrations across engineering, veterinary science, computer science, chemistry, physics and biology. Alumnus Endows Scholarship for NSU Business Students

Keith and Daniella Poirrier of Lafayette have established the Poirrier Family Endowed Scholarship for Northwestern State University’s College of Business and Technology. Poirrier, a 1992 accounting graduate and former Demon pole vaulter, is president and CEO of Poirrier Group, a specialty commercial insurance agency writing business in 17 states. The scholarship targets Louisiana residents who are juniors or seniors in the college and active in athletics, campus or community service.
