The 2026 Children’s Walking Tour welcomed third graders from across the parish to historic sites over the course of several days. Students spent the week learning about the history of historic downtown Natchitoches.

Students learned about the city’s history from eighth-grade interpreters who brought historic figures to life.

Volunteers from Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches (APHN), the Natchitoches Historic Foundation (NHF), the Natchitoches Service League, the Lions Club, First Methodist Church of Natchitoches, Trinity Episcopal Church, the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum participated in the event.

Donations from the Cane River National Heritage Area, the Krewe of Dionysos, and the Natchitoches Meat Pie Company covered the costs of transportation, equipment, and meat pies.
