Deputies confirmed there was no body in the vehicle. Deputies are in the process of running the license plate/vehicle identification number through the National Crime Information Center to determine the registered owner and if the vehicle is reported stolen. The road was reopened, however, the scene remained active at Bayou Pierre.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies, including Sheriff’s Divers, Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #6 divers, Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #9 divers and a local towing company are attempting to recover a vehicle submerged in Bayou Pierre near La. Hwy 1, according to Sheriff Stuart Wright.

During the past week, sheriff’s deputies received information that a vehicle was possibly submerged in the water. Deputies utilizing sonar equipment and divers confirmed the vehicle beneath the surface Saturday.

At 12 p.m. on Sept. 27 deputies and towing services were attempting to recover the vehicle.

La. Hwy 1 at Bayou Pierre will be temporarily closed while the wrecker is positioned on the bridge to lift and recover the vehicle.

Additional details will be released as they become available. Deputies last used sonar equipment in the same area approximately six months ago during a prior operation.

Motorists traveling through the area may experience delays.
