
Creole Heritage Month Opens Today; Full Schedule Set

Northwestern State’s Creole Heritage Center will celebrate Creole Heritage Month through October under the theme “Bon Temps and Living Traditions,” beginning with a kickoff from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today in front of Alost Hall, where staff will hand out scavenger hunt cards.
The schedule continues with a Creole Heritage Lunch and Learn on Oct. 6 featuring Milton Arceneaux and Katrice LaCour on Creole art, which requires an RSVP; Show and Share: Louisiana Creole Treasures from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 13-14 on the Kyser Hall Brickway, where staff will display artifact highlights; a Paint and Poetry event from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 19 in Student Union Room 122; and an open house at the Creole Heritage Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 27-28, with refreshments, games and a look at the center’s artifacts and resource library. Parish Sets October Meeting Dates

The Natchitoches Parish Planning and Zoning Commission will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12. The Natchitoches Parish Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in Room 211 of the Natchitoches Parish Courthouse.
MS Support Group Meets Oct. 6 at the Library
MS Support Group
A multiple sclerosis support group will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Natchitoches Parish Library. The group is open to people with MS along with their family members and caregivers, and is meant as a space to share experiences, find encouragement and connect with others facing the same diagnosis.
NSU Adds Guitar and Ukulele Classes Oct. 6 and 8

Northwestern State’s Office of Electronic Learning and Global Engagement will offer an instant guitar class Tuesday, Oct. 6, and an instant ukulele class Thursday, Oct. 8, both from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. over Zoom. The classes are open to ages 13 and older and cost $85 each. Guitar instruction covers chord formation, tuning, strumming patterns and choosing an instrument.
