
Free Shred Event at the Library Today

The Natchitoches Parish Library will hold its annual free Community Shred Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Main Branch, 450 Second St. An industrial shredding truck will handle document disposal at no cost, with no need to remove staples or paper clips or feed pages individually.
Whistling Duck Season Opens Saturday; Permit and Report Required

Louisiana’s first special black-bellied whistling duck season runs Saturday through Oct. 11. Only black-bellied whistling ducks may be taken, with a daily limit of four and a possession limit of 12. Hunters must have a free black-bellied whistling duck hunting permit from the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries before going out. Reporting is mandatory: everyone who obtained a permit must report their effort and harvest between Oct. 12 and Oct. 26 at louisianaoutdoors.com/bbwd-report, whether or not they hunted. Black-bellied whistling ducks show a wide white wing stripe in flight and feet that extend past the tail; adults have orange bills, pink feet and a black belly.
Senior Breakfast and Coffee With a Cop Oct. 8

A senior breakfast sponsored by the Natchitoches Police Department will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at 1016 Keyser Ave. The morning includes door prizes, and attendees can also stop by for Coffee with a Cop.

Free Legal Help at the Library Oct. 20
Natchitoches Parish Library
The Justice Bus, a mobile legal resource center, will be at the Natchitoches Parish Library’s main branch, 450 Second St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. Staff from the Louisiana Bar Foundation and Lagniappe Law Lab offer free information on civil matters including housing rights, family law, divorce, child custody, wills and estate planning, education, disaster relief, employment and public benefits, and help residents navigate the Louisiana Legal Navigator and find referrals. The service is free and no appointment is needed, with visits running 15 to 20 minutes. The van is not wheelchair accessible, but staff will meet people inside the library. The Justice Bus visits the library the third Tuesday of each month through December.
MS Support Group Meets Oct. 6 at the Library
MS Support Group
A multiple sclerosis support group will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Natchitoches Parish Library. The group is open to people with MS along with their family members and caregivers, and is meant as a space to share experiences, find encouragement and connect with others facing the same diagnosis.
