Beating a 3-1 Class 2A team didn’t move undefeated St. Mary’s up too far in this week’s Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A Top 10 voting, but another victory this Friday ought to do the trick.
After a 23-14 victory at Winnfield Friday, St. Mary’s (5-0) collected 4 points, up three from last week, in voting from 11 LSWA members who cover high school football around the state.
The Tigers have beaten four Class 2A teams, including Red River, who stunned previously unbeaten Logansport 30-24 last Friday. That loss dropped LHS from fifth to 10th in the Class A poll.
SMHS and Logansport (4-1) meet Friday night in Turpin Stadium in the first District 3-1A contest for both teams.
Only 14 of the 50 ranked teams in this week’s top 10 polls are from the 318 area code.
