Young at Heart luncheon celebrates America’s 250th Birthday

The monthly Young at Heart luncheon for seniors was held on October 7 at the First United Methodist Church.

Louie Bernard and Michael Rorex gave a special presentation in honor of America’s 250th birthday.  Louie spoke about our country’s great experiment in government “by the people” that began with our founding in 1776 and continues today. Michael concluded the program musically with a rousing performance of “America the Beautiful.”

October birthdays are being celebrated by Cyril Moreland, Preston Durr, Hugh Gentry, Bobbie Moody, and Perry Sproul.  David and Linda Clark and Harvey and Judy Polk are celebrating October wedding anniversaries.

Harvey Polk served as Master of Ceremonies, and Pastor Gary Willis offered a prayer before the meal.  Fall-themed table decorations were provided by the church’s Koinonia Circle.

Young at Heart meets on the first Wednesday monthly at 11 AM in Bostick Hall.  The meeting is non-denominational, and all community seniors are invited to come and enjoy the program, food, and fellowship.  Attendees are asked to pay a $5.00 fee or to bring a covered dish to share.  The next meeting is scheduled for November 4.
