For the second time in three weeks, Northwestern State’s Audrey Marfia took home the Southland Conference Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Marfia, a native of California, collected her second shutout of the season and made 14 saves combined in a pair of wins over East Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Those outcomes moved the Demons back on top of the SLC standings.
It is her second career weekly award following being recognized after wins over Lamar and Stephen F. Austin to begin the conference schedule.
Marfia made crucial saves against ETAMU late in the second half with the Demons clinging to a 2-1 lead to keep NSU in front and followed that up with a shutout at AMCC, one in which she made a huge impact, especially in the first half when the Islanders had the wind at their backs.
Her impact went beyond saves, though, as she played corner kicks well and intercepted potentially dangerous crosses.
It is the fourth week this season where NSU has taken home a weekly award. Marfia joins Paige Baumgartner as two Demons to win an award twice this season.
She also joins UIW’s Hannah Alexander as the lone goalkeepers to win the conference weekly award twice.
Marfia and her teammates next play in front of the home fans Thursday night at 7 against Houston Christian.
