Robeline News: October 14

By Alisa Yelverton

Happy Birthday to all the October babies out there. Yes, October! This year is nearly gone. Time flies when you’re having fun and blessed. I feel blessed waking up in the morning and being able to go to work. I am so thankful for all the things and people God has blessed me with in my life.

I recently enjoyed an evening at the Sabine Theatre in Many. There was a group playing bluegrass music. They were very good and entertaining. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it was a band led by a Robeline hometown man, Rodney French. I had the pleasure to visit with him at the Robeline Heritage Festival. He was telling me he had a bluegrass band. I told him I heard one just a little while back at the Sabine Theater. He said that was his band. I was surprised that I didn’t recognize him at the time but told him how much we enjoyed the singing and playing. So, if the opportunity arises to hear them, go and support your local hometown’s talent.

Just a brief reminder of the benefit being held this weekend for Andy Ballard and his family. He has been battling cancer. Any help or donations would be very much appreciated to help as he is not able to work and struggling with the medical expenses he has incurred. A coon hunt, raffle, auction, plate lunches and more are all planned for this Saturday, October 17th. The event is sponsored by the Kisatchie Coon Hunters Association. It will be held on the Robeline-Provencal Rd. For more information concerning the coon hunt or to pre-order a chicken lunch plate contact Kevin Bynog at 318-481-7917.

Membership drives still underway for the Robeline Heritage Society and Los Adaes Foundation of Robeline, Inc. Both groups’ success in all their events is dependent upon its’ volunteers. Help out your community when possible. No help is too small or too great. To volunteer your time for the Robeline Heritage Society, contact 318-602-8682. To volunteer your time for the Los Adaes Foundation of Robeline, Inc. contact Mike Marbut for more information.

Community news contributions are always welcomed. If you have any event, announcement or updates you would like featured, please reach out to 318-315-0280. I hope you all have a wonderful week. May God bless you and keep you safe.
