Autumn’s colorful charm was in full bloom when the Lesche Club of Natchitoches gathered for its regular monthly meeting on the first Monday in October at the First Presbyterian Church on Bienville Street. With a tempting assortment of refreshments, cheerful fall decorations, and an evening of beautiful music, members enjoyed a delightful gathering filled with friendship and seasonal spirit.
Serving as hostesses for the occasion were Alice Bryant and Sharon Huey, who welcomed members and guests to a gorgeous refreshment table dressed in a mossy green cloth and adorned with a colorful woven runner stretching its length. A carved wooden bowl filled with bright little gourds served as the centerpiece, while assorted acorns and charming ceramic birds were scattered along the runner, adding a touch of woodland whimsy to the autumn setting.
Of course, no gathering of Lesche ladies would be complete without a tempting spread of goodies. The table offered a mouthwatering assortment of treats: homemade sugar cookies, trail mix and spinach-artichoke dip served with pita chips. A platter of chocolate brownies shared space with pumpkin spice brownies, while jumbo cashews provided a savory nibble. Sliced tiramisu cake offered a sweet Italian indulgence, and a chafing dish of hot barbecue meatballs promised a savory treat. Candy corn added a festive splash of orange and yellow, bringing a playful touch of fall to the display. Bottled water and refreshing peach tea rounded out the offerings.
After a pleasant time of fellowship and catching up with friends, members settled in for an especially lovely musical program.
Club Vice President Gilen Norwood introduced Dr. Terrie Sanders of Northwestern State University, who brought along two gifted graduate students, Lhaureen Lazo and Claudette Cruz. Both young women hail from the Philippines and shared their remarkable musical abilities with an appreciative audience.
The program opened with a stirring duet from the popular Broadway musical “Wicked” as the ladies performed “For Good,” a song celebrating friendship and the lasting influence people have on one another. It was a fitting selection for an evening centered on fellowship.
Lazo then took the spotlight with two selections showcasing her versatility. She performed Adele’s “Feel My Love” and “Verborgenheit” by Wolf, demonstrating her ability to move seamlessly between contemporary popular music and classical art song.
Cruz proved equally captivating, treating the audience to Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” followed by Poulenc’s “Les Chemins de l’amour.” Her selections offered another wonderful display of vocal expression and musical range.
The two talented performers were rewarded with enthusiastic applause from the audience, whose warm response reflected the pleasure of hearing such gifted young artists share their talents.
Following the musical presentation, Club President Donna Baker conducted the business meeting, during which members discussed additional plans for the year ahead.
With its inviting autumn table, delicious refreshments, warm fellowship, and outstanding musical entertainment, the October meeting was a delightful reminder of the many pleasures of Lesche Club membership. Members departed having enjoyed a lovely evening together and looking forward to the club’s next gathering.
