Creole Heritage Center to host Open House October 27-28

The Creole Heritage Center at Northwestern State University will host an open house Tuesday, October 27, and Wednesday, October 28, inviting visitors to learn more about Louisiana Creole history, culture, and preservation efforts.

The open house will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Creole Heritage Center, located in Room 118 of Kyser Hall on the NSU campus.

Center staff will be available to welcome visitors and share information about ongoing initiatives to preserve and educate the public about Louisiana Creoles and their cultural heritage.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in a special scavenger hunt designed for all ages. The activity will encourage participants to explore photographs, historical objects, and artwork on display throughout the Center. Light refreshments will be served.

“October is Creole Heritage Month in the state of Louisiana and around the globe,” said Dr. Kent Peacock, director of the Creole Heritage Center. “We wanted to mark the end of the month with a special opportunity to visit the Center and learn about this significant part of our Natchitoches community and Louisiana culture overall.”

Participants in the Center’s month-long #CreoleQuest2026 scavenger hunt may also submit their completed scavenger hunt cards, provide other proof of participation, and collect prizes during the open house.

Additional information about the scavenger hunt and prize eligibility is available at www.nsula.edu/creole by selecting “Creole Quest 2026.”

Parking for the event is free and available in non-restricted campus parking lots.
