Robeline News: Halloween and beyond

By Alisa Yelverton

As October draws to a close, you can feel the cozy shift in the seasons. Halloween serves as the official kick off to the festive holiday season. As the candy wrappers are cleaned up and November arrives, the energy shifts from spooky costumes to the warm, family gatherings of Thanksgiving , Christmas and the New Year. This time of the year is a favorite of many people. The cool weather and holiday season seem to evoke childhood memories that we tend to forget about. Holiday decorating is always fun. Getting out all your fall and Christmas decorations out of the attic to spruce up your home seems to get you in the holiday spirit.

Robeline’s Halloween in the Park starts at 6 pm this Saturday, Oct. 31. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served. So, if you don’t have time to prepare dinner, the Village of Robeline is taking care of that for you. The kids can eat, go from booth to booth playing games and receiving treats. It’s a safe alternative to going house to house. You and the kids dress up in your favorite costumes and come enjoy the festivities. I’m sure it’s not too late to have your own booth to offer games and treats to all the trick-or-treaters on Saturday. Contact the Village of Robeline Town Hall for more information. Whatever it is you decide to do or go on Halloween, please be safe.

This coming weekend is the opening of regular gun season for deer- often considered the most anticipated event of the fall hunting calendar. I’m sure there will be lots of hunters in the woods. I know men talk a lot about women shopping or spending money. This is definitely one time of the year men go a little crazy with their spending. From guns, ammo, hunting leases, deer feed, deer processing, mounting and all the extras- a lot of money is spent. So, ladies if want that new purse or those cute shoes- go ahead and get it! I hope all of you hunters get a big buck and you have plenty room in your freezers. Don’t forget to wear your orange and please be safe.

This past Saturday, I went to the Marthaville Good Ole Days Festival. The weather for Friday and Saturday was really good. Typical Fall weather, a little cool in the morning and evening, but it warmed up during the day. They sure do have an entertaining parade. I didn’t count the entries, but there were a good many. I enjoyed seeing all the antique/classic vehicle parading through. There were some really nice old cars. I enjoyed visiting with some friends I hadn’t seen in a while. It’s always nice to catch up with old friends.
