Sheriff’s deputies capture murder suspect after suspicious person call

A suspicious person call has resulted in the capture of a Natchitoches man wanted by the Natchitoches Police Department since January 2026 for Second Degree Murder, according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Operations Bureau deputies were dispatched by the NATCOM 911 Center on Oct. 27 around 12 pm to a reported suspicious person complaint in the 100 block of Deer Creek Road near Natchitoches.

The caller informed communications specialists that a male individual, reportedly wearing a black shirt and blue shorts, had been knocking on the door and acting in an aggressive manner.

Deputies responded to the area and subsequently located an individual matching the description provided by the caller.

The individual was identified as 24-year-old Daren D. Vaughn of Natchitoches.

During the investigation, deputies requested a local warrants and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) wanted-person check, learning that Vaughn was wanted by the Natchitoches Police Department in connection with a Second Degree Murder investigation dating back to January 2026.

Vaughn was taken into custody without incident and subsequently released to the Natchitoches Police Department for booking and processing procedures at LaSalle Corrections/Natchitoches Detention Center.

Sheriff Stuart Wright expressed his appreciation to the concerned citizen who contacted authorities and emphasized the importance of community involvement in public safety.

“This is an excellent example of how a concerned citizen reporting suspicious activity can make a significant difference in keeping our communities safe,” said Sheriff Wright. “We commend the caller for recognizing something unusual and immediately contacting law enforcement. Because of that call, our deputies were able to locate and apprehend an individual wanted in connection with a serious violent crime.

We encourage citizens to remain vigilant and never hesitate to report suspicious persons or activity in their neighborhoods. Working together, we can make Natchitoches Parish a safer place for everyone.”

Sheriff Wright also commended the responding patrol deputies and NATCOM 911 dispatchers for their professionalism and coordinated response that led to Vaughn’s apprehension.

The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens that reporting suspicious activity, regardless of how minor it may initially appear, can provide law enforcement with valuable information and sometimes lead to the apprehension of individuals wanted for serious criminal offenses.
