Natchitoches Central honors its senior players at Turpin Stadium tonight at 7 and tries to ruin Haughton’s unbeaten season in a District 1-5A football game.
What might look like a mismatch probably isn’t. The Chiefs (0-8 overall, 0-4 in district) have carried three of their four 1-5A contests into the final minutes of play or overtime, falling 41-35 last Friday in OT at Benton.
They’ll try to slow down a Haughton offense averaging 48 points in four district wins, or match scores with it. NCHS senior running back David Newton is coming off a four-touchdown night at Benton.
The Chiefs won last year’s meeting, 42-32. Haughton’s lineup is primarily seniors back from that Buc squad that went 2-8.
NCHS – still with a slight chance to make the 28-team Non-Select Division I playoff field with a pair of wins – caps the 10-game schedule next week in Shreveport against Huntington.
ST. MARY’S: The Tigers traded blows on the scoreboard with Ringgold in the first two quarters Thursday night in a District 3-1A contest in Bienville Parish, but then blasted the Redskins with 31 unanswered second-half points in a 67-28 victory.
St. Mary’s improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in district, while Ringgold dropped to 4-4 and 1-3. The Tigers posted their third straight blowout, and have averaged 59.7 points while pounding 3-1A foes Jonesboro-Hodge, Lakeview and Ringgold.
SMHS will host Montgomery next Friday to wrap up the regular season, hoping to earn a first-round bye in the Select Division IV playoff bracket.
LAKEVIEW: The Gators (2-6, 0-3) visit Jonesboro-Hodge (6-2, 2-1) hoping to halt a five-game skid at Caldwell-Peacock Stadium. The Tigers are 4-0 there this year, including lopsided district wins over Ringgold and Montgomery.
Lakeview finishes its schedule at home next Friday, hosting Ringgold.
