City of Natchitoches water crews responded to a six-inch water main break at the intersection of Texas Street and Second Street on Saturday, Nov. 7. Crews were dispatched around 6 a.m. and worked for approximately six hours before completing repairs.
The water main had developed a 14-inch-long hole along the bottom of the pipe. After initial repair attempts were unsuccessful, crews cut out the damaged section and replaced it with a new six-inch C900 PVC pipe, replacing the outdated cast iron main.
The damage was attributed to persistent drought conditions in the Natchitoches area, which have caused ground movement and placed stress on aging water lines.
