SOLVING AND PREVENTING CRIME ALWAYS A PRIORITY FOR NPSO

CID

The Criminal Investigations Division of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office is responsible for investigating crimes, solving crimes, and helping victims of crime in the parish.

Our mission to investigate criminal activity in a professional manner that relies on the finding of facts. We treat all citizens with respect and courtesy throughout an investigation without regard to any outside influences. Only evidence, data, and eyewitness accounts are considered in our investigatory process.

Greg Dunn serves as Chief of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Our office has several investigative units which are comprised of experienced and trained investigators who are focused on a particular area of criminal activity. Additionally, we work together with other agencies in the region including the municipal police departments, Louisiana State Police, and federal law enforcement agencies.

The Felony Crimes Division investigates felony crimes including property crime, violent crime, sexual assaults, and domestic crime. Our investigators collect and preserve evidence, interview witnesses, help victims, identify signs of domestic abuse, arrest suspects, and testify in court cases.

The Juvenile Crimes Division’s goal is to prevent and solve juvenile related crime. The division works closely with the Community and Youth Services Divisions to be proactive in helping juveniles remain in school, crime free, and live in a positive home environment. We also provide outreach to area schools to discuss topics that affect teens in today’s society including peer pressure, turning away from alcohol and drug use, bullying, truancy, and the consequences of making the wrong choices in life. The division’s mission is to help our young people stay out of the legal system and grow into productive young adults.

The Criminal Patrol Division’s role mission is to protect citizens by deterring criminal activity. This unit is actively visible to ensure the community is being protected. One of the main components of criminal activity is narcotics use. To help identify illegal drugs, the division has a trained narcotics detection dog who has been with the NPSO since 2014. The dog is specially trained to detect substances such as marijuana, methamphetamine, and cocaine in a vehicle, residence or on a person.

In regards to narcotics, the Criminal Investigations Division works interoperatively with the Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force, whose mission is remove illegal narcotics and drug trafficking from our community. The Task Force is comprised of law enforcement agencies from the region who work together in investigating and making arrests for drug related crimes.

Although Sheriff Victor Jones has dedicated many resources, training hours, and technology in Criminal Investigations Division to protect the community, the best asset we have in preventing crimes is the citizens themselves.

There are many things you can do to help us keep you safe. First and foremost, always lock your vehicles and residence. Most property crimes result from unsecured property. Also, be sensible when receiving telephone calls from anyone you do not know. Never give out your private information on the phone. This includes your birthday, internet passwords, social security numbers, etc. Legitimate companies such as banks and credit card companies never call their customers to ask for this information.

Lastly, always feel free to contact us if you suspect criminal activity or in fear of any danger. All communication will be completely confidential. Your active eyes and ears in the community will help us continue to make Natchitoches Parish a safe and prosperous community.
